Fazioli F278 Grand Piano from the Juilliard School

Ellis Piano has recently gained a very important addition to our inventory—a Fazioli concert grand piano.

Paolo Fazioli was born into a family of furniture makers. He worked in his uncle’s furniture factory, and in 1979 began building his first piano prototype in the corner of the factory. Two years later, Fazioli Pianoforti srl was officially incorporated, and the Fazioli Piano line was born. David Ellis had the pleasure of meeting Paolo Fazioli and his son, Luca, in California in 2018. He described it as an exceptional experience. “He truly is one of those people you meet, and you just go ‘wow, they’re just on another level!’ And then you get one of his pianos, and it’s the same thing. You can understand why his pianos are so remarkable after you meet him. He touches every one of them.”

Last year, Fazioli Pianos produced only 135 total pianos—the most of any year. To put that in perspective, some piano manufacturers produce more than 135 in a single day. Each Fazioli piano is made lovingly in Sacile, Italy just north of Venice. Selective woods used to craft a Fazioli piano are taken from the same forest used to craft the famed Stradivarius violins. Our newest addition, the F278 9’2” concert grand piano, came to us from The Juilliard School in New York City. It was played by some of the world’s greatest musicians for the past three years. It has since been fitted with all new hammers and prepped to its original, like-new glory. The piano spent a few months quarantined in New York City before finally making its way to Ellis Piano a couple of months ago. Ellis Piano is fortunate enough to also have two smaller Fazioli pianos in our showrooms: the F212 7’ and the F228 7’6” grands.

The Fazioli Family is truly dedicated, not to money, but to crafting the best pianos in the world. Fazioli pianos are known for their Operatic style voicing and responsive, flawless touch. However, Fazioli does not stop there. Their obsession to build the most complete piano the world has seen shows in their details. “They are a unique, very special piano,” Ellis says. “They have hinges that are 24 carat gold-plated and characteristics of that nature. And it’s not just for looks—the gold-plated hinges will never tarnish over time. That’s why they’re used.”

Ellis Piano is proud to be the only Fazioli representative in the Southeast. In just a short period of time, Ellis Piano has enjoyed contact with various Universities including some of the most respected Music Schools in the region regarding these Fazioli instruments.
