Elton John recently surprised London commuters, on Feb. 4th, when he performed a few classics at St. Pancras international on a new Yamaha Piano.
Elton said: “I’ve heard so much about the pianos in St Pancras and thought it was such a great idea. I appreciate that the pianos in the station have had to be retuned and repaired a lot, so I thought it would be a good idea to give the station a new one. Who knows, maybe there’s a new Elton amongst London commuters!
Pianos have been filling the St. Pancras station since 2009 and some have been donated by commuters themselves. The pianos are carefully cared for and played every day by people of all ages.
Chris Gero, founder and vice president of Yamaha Entertainment Group and who proudly donated the Yamaha upright, said: “When Elton told us about the pianos in St Pancras we were immediately on board. We believe anyone who has the desire to play a piano should have access to a quality instrument. It’s an honor to support such a talented artist along with his charitable endeavors.”
